Origanum vulgare (o.vulgare) is a subspecies of oregano , the culinary herb widely used in Greek and Italian cuisine.
O. vulgare contains a high concentration of phenolic acids and vlavonoids making it a powerful antioxidant. It has also demonstrated antimicrobial activity against food-borne illness.
Rather than being a culinary herb, many cultures use o. vulgare as a medicinal plant for coughs, colds, influenza, mild fevers, fungal infections, indigestion, stomach upsets, enteric parasites and painful menstruation.
This particular type of oregano is also used as an antiseptic as well as a cure for stomach and respiratory problems.
